You’re on Twitter, and you want to unlock its potential for successfully promoting businesses. Twitter has an average of 317 million monthly active users as of the third quarter of 2016, according to Twitter. How do you go about advertising to tap this audience? Twitter offers a choice of ways to advertise. So it’s good to know your options and how each one can serve your business. There are different types of ads on Twitter: Promoted Tweets, Promoted Accounts, and Promoted Trends.
1. When you promote Tweets they will appear in the results or on the users’ timelines. These are the way to go when you want to generate leads or promote your product or service directly. Most of the time, your best bet is to use a combination of Promoted Tweets and Promoted accounts, which will allow you to grow your follower base and generate leads simultaneously. Promoted Tweets should be attention grabbing and enticing enough to get people to click through. For instance, you wouldn’t say, “For a chocolate chip cookie recipe, click here.” You’d saying something like, “The BEST double chocolate chunk cookies you’ve ever tasted,” with the URL.
2. When you promote your account, it will show up on the “Who to Follow” section. Choose this ad if you simply want to grow your follower base. When you’re trying to beef up your following with Promoted Accounts, there are a few things you’ll want to look at. First impressions matter, so you’ll want a great logo or profile picture. Next, make sure your profile page is informative and enticing, because that’s where most people are going to look next before following. Last, be sure you’ve published great Tweets in the days leading up to promoting your profile, as well as some good ones lined up.
3. Promoted Trends are topics or hashtags that are at the top of the trending topics list. This is particularly helpful when you want to generate awareness about your brand or product or an event. It enables you to start a trending topic on Twitter. Last but not least, are Promoted Trends. Promoted Trends are a great way to get noticed on Twitter, so I suggest saving them for the times when you REALLY want to stand out from the crowd. A few great examples could be: 1. When you’re a brand new business and want your company/grand opening to be a trending topic; 2. When you’re holding an event, whether it’s a gallery opening or a huge sale or an indie rock concert; 3. When you’ve developed a new product or service and you want to generate attention; 4. When you’re making the most of a trending topic in your area of expertise and you’ve written an amazing article to drive traffic to your blog/website.
Twitter can help you bring your business to the next level in so many ways. Remember to use Twitter Analytics to see if your advertising efforts are having the desired effect. You can adjust as you go to get the results you want. You’ve got thousands of potential customers on Twitter. Now go find them!
